Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are just turning five. Currently, we are distance learning. The children are looking forward to school resuming in the fall. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some of the students have special learning needs and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their children's breakfast and lunch. We are a very diverse community, with over twenty languages spoken.
Our school is a high poverty, Title I school, with high expectations for all.
Each day, we practice letters, phonics and sight words. We study science and math. We incorporate technology through the use of iPad apps, and we learn beginning engineering concepts through the use of building blocks and other manipulatives. At the end of the school day, the children are so excited to see their parents and tell them all the things they did at school. The parents are very supportive and they enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories and learning new things.
My Project
Please help my students return to a classroom that is stocked with items they will need to stay clean and healthy this upcoming school year. While we wait for news as to what our classrooms will be like next year, one thing is for certain, we will need to keep our classroom as clean and germ free as possible. For this reason, we are asking for items such as disposable gloves, face masks, and tissues.
We are also asking for a stapler, name tags, and other items to keep our classroom organized and running smoothly.
The students will make use of these items daily. With these protective items and organizational supplies, my students will be able to concentrate on their learning instead of worrying about how they are going to stay healthy in school.
