Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are just turning five. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some of the students have special learning needs and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their children's breakfast and lunch. We are a very diverse community, with over twenty languages spoken.
Our school is a high poverty, Title I school, with high expectations for all.
Each day, we practice letters, phonics and sight words. We study science and math. We incorporate technology through the use of iPad apps, and we learn beginning engineering concepts through the use of building blocks and other manipulatives. At the end of the school day, the children are so excited to see their parents and tell them all the things they did at school. The parents are very supportive and they enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories and learning new things.
My Project
I am requesting items that my students will be needing for the upcoming semester. Paper towels and cleaning wipes will be used to wipe down tables to help keep germs from spreading, which will keep the children healthy and keep them in school. A good supply of tissues is extremely important during these times. Incentives such as stickers, prize box toys, and certificates will serve to motivate the students to try hard and always do their best. The tooth holder necklaces will make sure their lost teeth will get home safely to be placed under their pillows for the tooth fairy!
These are items that need replacing every year and are important to keep our young learners healthy and motivated to learn.
Thank you so much for your support of my classroom!
