Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are just turning five. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some of the students have special learning needs, and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their children's breakfast and lunch.
Our school is a high poverty Title I school, with high expectations for all.
Each day, we practice letters, phonics, and sight words. We study science and math. We incorporate technology through the use of iPad apps, and we learn beginning engineering concepts through the use of of building blocks and other manipulatives. At the end of the school day, the children are so excited to see their parents and tell them all the things they did at school. The parents are very supportive and enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories and learning new things.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of items to help my class have a great year! A picnic table and plastic table covers would be used during snack and activity time in our yard.
Being able to go outside adds variety to the school day and promotes learning.
We can learn about plants, gardening, and the environment.
We use many Ziploc baggies throughout the year to store our math games and manipulatives and to safely send items home. I am asking for a supply to refill what we’ve used last year.
We use our Dymo label maker for name tags and labels on our classroom cubbies and other items. Included in this project is a supply of refill tape that we need to use the label maker. Also included are a few other items that need replacing every year, such as name tags and duct tape.
These supplies are the “extras” that will will keep our STEM classroom organized and help my students have a great year! Thank you for your support!
