Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are just turning five. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some of the students have special learning needs, and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their children's breakfast and lunch. We are a very diverse community, with over 20 languages spoken.
Our school is a high poverty, Title I school, with high expectations for all.
Each day, we practice letters, phonics and sight words. We study science and math. We incorporate technology through the use of iPad apps, and we learn beginning engineering concepts through the use of building blocks and other manipulatives. At the end of the school day, the children are so excited to see their parents and tell them all the things they did at school. The parents are very supportive, and they enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories and learning new things.
My Project
I am requesting items that my students will be needing for the upcoming semester. We would love to have some hula skirts for our dance performance this spring. With these costumes, our performance will pop!
I have also requested some much-needed items to keep our classroom safe and clean.
Our classroom is located adjacent to our play yard, which has lots of trees, sand, and mud. A vacuum cleaner will help keep this debris out of our classroom! The children sit on the carpet for a good deal of the school day, and it is vital that we are able to keep it clean.
Paper towels and cleaning wipes will be used to wipe down tables to help keep germs from spreading, which will keep the children healthy and keep them in school. Snack crackers will be used to help children when they get hungry between breakfast and lunch time. Thank you so much for your support of my classroom!
