it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a specialized public high school in New York City renowned for excelling at the math and sciences. They are also passionate about learning French and developing their ability to communicate with people from around the world, thus becoming well-rounded individuals and future leaders.
Voracious readers, my students breeze through French language books faster than I can obtain them.
The more they read, the more their vocabulary and communication skills improve, transforming them into truly proficient French speakers.
My Project
The "Ça va?" series of magazines are geared towards third-year French language students and contains a variety of articles concerning world events, sports, celebrities, fashion, history, and science--all of which are of interest to most teenagers. It is filled with pictures to help illustrate concepts to aid French language learners to acquire the language by reading material that sparks their interest.
I intend to have students read each magazine issue and discuss the articles they find of interest, and also use the topics to spark class-wide debates--IN FRENCH!
It is proven that 70% of a literate person's vocabulary is acquired through reading, and thus the more my students read, the more fluent their French will become.
