My Students
My students live in a low-income community where getting resources is difficult. I serve an amazing bunch of kids that are driven to learn.
Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds, with 100% of our students receiving free lunch.
Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Sacramento. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Hindi, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Arabic. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics. With the diversity in our school comes diversity in how they learn. My hope is to provide my students some flexible seating options to increase their focus and also at the same time decrease any behavior issues that might get in the way of learning.
My Project
This adventure to Yosemite National Park will reinforce the Science curriculum taught in 6th grade as we study Earth Science. What better way to experience rocks and minerals than in the shadow of Half Dome? Social and Emotional Learning goals have also been embedded in the curriculum that we will study during the week in Yosemite National Park. Students hike through the dramatic landscapes of Yosemite, explore ancient groves of giant sequoias, ski across snowy meadows, and challenge themselves to reach the tops of waterfalls. Through inquiry-based learning, students are immersed in the geologic history of the Sierra Nevada, engage in field research projects such as water quality monitoring, and discover their own personal connections to the natural world
Your donations will greatly enhance the lives of these kids.
Through service-learning projects, students learn how their actions can have a positive impact on their community and the greater environment.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
