A Trip Around the World

My students need various novels written from around the world to increase their sense of community in our classroom.

My Students

"Excuses are tools of incompetence, they build monuments of nothingness, and those who specialize in their uses seldom accomplish anything." This is a quote my students learn the first week of school each year. It's our mantra, a reminder that we can do anything if we truly put our minds to it. Most importantly, it inspires us to shy away from excuses and focus on solutions.

I work in an inner city school with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunches.

Despite those challenges, My students are excited to work on the many engaging projects I design throughout the school year. This year will not be any different.

My Project

This year I want to focus on making my students more aware of the world they live in. Students will be reading novels, both literature and nonfiction texts, to engage in understanding not only historical references but also current events.

Access to quality books will give my students their passport to success this school year.

The novel "Jason's Song" will help with exposing students to a new culture and also discuss topics such as bullying to bring relevancy an important issue. We will read this novel as a class.

The other novels will assist my students with learning about other cultures at their own pace and interest level. Student choice is an important component in the classroom.
