My Students
Although we haven’t even met yet, I’m beyond excited to welcome my incoming fourth graders this 2018-2019 school year.
Exciting as it may be for me, it’s easy to forget what it’s like for those students.
Today, many students face challenges at home that most adults could only imagine. They look to school as an escape from the worries at home and look forward to the opportunities that education brings them. In my inclusion classroom, student reading abilities range from first grade to sixth grade.
At my school, we strive to personalize instruction to support students as they realize their full potential through active engagement. It is with this SUPPORT that I plan to get them fully engaged in reading.
My Project
A heartwarming and rewarding read, THE TALE OF DESPEREAUX cheers uniqueness, boos conformity, urges readers to overlook seeming differences, and inspires hope.

This will be the second year I'm using "The Tale of Despereaux" with my class. I was amazed at how easily it sucked all of us in. They used countless reading skills and learned valuable lessons during our novel study.
Many times, students are discouraged from reading novels because they think they are too hard or too long to read. Completing a novel study as a class can boost the reading confidence of many students and encourage them to want to read novels independently. Reading one novel successfully can build the foundation that grows our students into life-long readers.
