My students need a set of 4th grade read along books with CDs, the Shel Silverstein poetry series with CDs, and a variety of multi-colored construction paper to help them produce projects in response to the books they will listen to and eventually read by themselves.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher who teaches in a low income, high need school. My class consists of six 4th and six 5th grade students. These students have been classified with several disabilities, some of which includes ADD and ADHD.
Because of my students wide variety of reading levels their interest and special needs classifications, it is sometimes a struggle to keep all of my students' engaged in their assigned activity, especially when I am engaged with a guided reading group and the remaining students are supposed to be working in a center or completing an assignment.
If the students had these interesting book sets that include such classics as "Charlotte's Web" and Shel Silverstein's "Falling Up" in the listening center, they could read-along with the cds and stay engaged while I work with the guided reading group. They would be able to practice their note taking skills, write short and long responses to what they have read-along to and heard and then complete a project with the use of the multi-colored construction paper and other materials.
With your help, my students would be able to recognize the joy of reaching short term goals and completing assigned tasks with minimal difficulty. With the State ELA tests approaching quickly, my students need as much help that they can get. Join me in helping them to succeed in reaching their reading goals.
