This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The supplies that I am asking for will contribute to a space for my special needs kiddos to go calm themselves. Calm down corners help children practice identifying feelings and emotions to better manage their stress, self-regulate, and control their impulses. To create the calm corner I am asking for a tent. The tent will be used as the calm corner because it offers a private space to help them self regulate. Because calm corners are also equipped with comforting objects and soothing materials that can promote mindfulness, breathing, and reflection. I am also asking for the floor pillows for them to sit on, sensory objects like the rug to rub their fingers on to help calm themselves, plush pillows to hold for comfort and a wheel of emotions tool. A book shelf is also needed to house various books for them to use about emotions, anxiety and behavioral health, the sensory items and the lamp. The basket will help us keep the space organizing by placing the plush pillows and blanket inside.

With your donations, our special needs students will have a designated space with the sole intent of being a safe space for them to go to when they feel their emotions are running too high and they need to regain their emotional and physical control.

This will help my students who are having a tough day to take a 5-minute calming break to calm themselves and return to the classroom and be successful.
