My Project

As a K/1 loop teacher in Alaska, I have a wide range of student needs in my classroom. I have spent these students' first year of school encouraging their love of education and getting to know each of their individual needs and interests. As I plan to loop up with these students next year for 1st grade, I intend to use what I have learned about my class to my advantage.

I intend to incorporate more of a student-choice and self-paced environment in my classroom next year.

Through allowing students multiple options on how they would like to do their learning, I will create a more engaged and comfortable environment. In order to do this, I will offer a range of activities and seating arrangements to choose from. This will provide more hands on opportunities where students can do fun activities with work that is exactly where they need to be.

Providing a variety of work furniture will also allow options for those students that need constant movement and changes in activity. An emphasis on personal work rugs will also allow students to choose their own "floor desk." This will help students realize that their work stays in their own learning area, and will not be disrupted and mixed up with others.
