My Students

My students are thoughtful, inquisitive and risk takers. My students trust the work they are challenged with every time they step into my classroom when it becomes the clothing workshop. More importantly, they trust me to facilitate a journey throughout the semester that pushes them to not only become better students but to truly discover who they are and what is important to them, not just as scholars but as part of humankind.

All students have the capacity for greatness, and our learning together is one more step on the road to discovering where the path will take them.

My students come from all over the area to attend our school. As a teacher of 9-12th graders this year, I am able to support the development of foundational skills essential to the understanding of what it means to design and make clothing. It's an honor and a privilege to teach them each day and I never cease to be impressed by their capacity for greatness.

My Project

Costume design and construction is one of the core aspects of theatre production and these materials will make it possible for my students to experience a number of different aspects of what it means to be a costumer.

Something as simple as a needle and thread can transform a flat piece of felt into a three-dimensional object.

The materials will make it possible for us to explore a range of units of students starting with design basics then move on to hand sewing, yarn craft, and crochet, and finally culminating in machine sewing. Ultimately, this course will take students on a journey to learn about how to tell a story with clothing.
