My Students

Hello! My students live in Los Angeles, CA, one of the most diverse cities in the country! They learn and flourish at our high school, whose educational vision is to develop exemplary students that "pursue academic excellence, are involved citizens, and possess 21st-century skills." In my classes, they are community-driven scientists ready to transform their communities and world. They face many barriers and are coping with the realities of living in an urban community, such as immigration, pollution, violence, poverty, and gentrification. Yet, they are resilient and proud of their roots and upbringing as they rise as confident and motivated scientists and scholars.

My Project

Hello, welcome to my project! These past few years have been challenging for students and teachers alike. Students have been resilient and have persevered through a teacher strike, pandemic, in addition to their community and family issues. A Cricut in a classroom would provide students with materials to help improve their high school experience by making it relevant and exciting.

A Cricut will help welcome students to the class by creating relevant, inviting, engaging classroom decor, bulletin boards, awards, projects, and so much more!

I will use it to personalize students' experiences. Students love when something is created especially for them because it speaks to their lives and makes their education about them.

I will create fun and engaging bulletin boards that display students' work professionally and inexpensively. Using a Cricut will save money on bulletin board materials and displays that I make throughout the year. Additionally, students deserve to have their work presented and showcased so that they are proud of the learning and progress they have made this year. Bulletin boards provide an opportunity for students to learn from each other, appreciate the work of others, and create a strong sense of classroom community. Showcasing students boost their confidence and encourage them to continue trying to improve.

Additionally, my student's interests and identities can be showcased and displayed throughout the classroom by making resources and decor that apply to them. It seems silly, but the more students see themselves in the class, the safer they will feel to engage with the material and create a safe community of learners.
