Help me give my students a space to call their own with a rug that has individual spot markers that they can sit on during a read aloud, or independent work time.
I teach a group of inquisitive and kind hearted first graders who love to learn about everything and anything around them. They come from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds. Some are first and second generation Americans, and most speak multiple languages.
For a few of my kiddos, this is their first experience in a mostly English classroom.
As English Language Learners, they learn best when they work collaboratively on hands on projects and activities. This gives them a chance to practice not only their social skills, but their language skills as well.
My Project
My students need a rug that is large enough for all of them to sit comfortably on, as well as have their own space. This rug will get plenty of use during whole group lessons, independent work time, and for motor breaks throughout the day. With a larger rug, my kiddos who have growth spurts in the middle of the year will still have plenty of space!
My students are first graders who have a lot of energy and different needs.
The seat cushions will help provide flexible seating options to those kiddos who want to work on the rug, or who may need support for their chairs. This also helps our classroom's flexible seating model, and provides more seating for the kiddos who want a change from their desk.
