My Students
My students have a love for school and learning! They are thrilled to work and play with their friends. They learn by interacting with their peers, problem-solving, and sharing. I would like my classroom to reflect the kind of learners I teach. My first graders need a space to come together and learn as a community! A large classroom rug will allow students this opportunity.
I work in a rural community at a Title I school with 79% of students receiving free or reduced lunch.
There is a great deal of pride at our school, and our school staff is always learning new strategies and techniques to increase student achievement. My hope is that student engagement will be increased in a flexible-seating learning environment. My students love to read, sing, dance, and play games. They need a designated area with plenty of room to do these things with their classmates. In our classroom, who we learn with is as important as what we are learning!
My Project
Our first grade classroom is being transitioned into a flexible seating environment. In a flexible seating classroom, students are given the chance to choose a seat that works best for them during independent work or station time.
A large classroom rug will allow us to have a place to come together for structured whole group lessons and meetings.
Students will also use the rug while reading, writing, working with math manipulatives, using technology, playing games, and doing brain breaks. I know that my students will be motivated to learn and excited to collaborate with their peers using this new classroom rug.
