My Students

Have you ever gone to a store and found that they didn't quite have what you were looking for? It's a disappointing feeling. Imagine being a student now. The classroom library is your store, yet what you're looking for to quench your thirst for reading isn't there.

We are a third-grade class in a low-income, Title 1 school.

Each and every one of my students is unique in their own way, yet they all share one common trait- a love of reading. While my students try their best to succeed at reading, however, they are at a loss when it comes to finding the books that they would like to read.

My Project

My goal is to fill the classroom library with an assortment of student requested titles. Having a library of books that the students thoroughly enjoy reading is essential for their academic and social growth. The wide variety of books in series will allow me to conduct an author study and expose students to different books by the same author, as well as provide them with the opportunity independently to enjoy a series of books. There are many reasons why students read- to learn something new, to escape reality or just to smile. In providing my students with these titles, I hope to achieve all three of these goals. These titles are particularly special because they have come at the request of my students. Students will ultimately enjoy themselves when they are passionate about reading, and it is that passion that will transcend to learning and character growth.

Thank you in advance for giving my students the opportunity to succeed.

While it may seem like a lot, the overall impact that it will have on my students academic and social standing will make it well worth it. Just thinking about how excited they will be when they see the multiple library titles that they can turn to for enrichment, support or just enjoyment makes this project even more special. Thank you again.
