This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Special Stars are what my classroom has. I am honored to be the teacher of a classroom with multiple disabilities students. These are the students with one in million kind of diseases. They are the most unique, strong and capable students you can ever meet. But with uniqueness also come challenges. My students have learning, and physical disabilities and the majority of the class is wheelchair bound. As you can imagine being on the same position all day long is not comfortable. That's why I like to take them out of their wheelchairs during the day so they can stretch, change positions, and sometimes even take a cozy nap. But that is not as comfortable when having to lay on a carpet on the floor.

By donating to our project, you are not only providing comfort but also a cozy environment for the students to thrive.

There is already a perfect corner for a folding sofa in the classroom, we just need a good heart to make our wish come true. Our wish list also asks for cardstock, laminating sheets and Velcro dots, since those are some of the most used items in the classroom. This class benefits from constant repetition and from practicing over and over. I usually print all the materials, and laminate and velcro them so it can be used to practice over and over.

We also requested the communication devices. Majority of the class is non-verbal, so we benefit from these buttons as a mean of communication. Students can answer to classroom questions or tell us what their needs are just by pressing at them. It will be very beneficial for the classroom to have a restful corner and the most used supplies to help our students navigate their challenges more easily.
