A Special Place My Library

Help me give my students a space of the own in the library media center with beanbags

My Students

A library media center is the hub of the school. It provides more than books, it is a place where students are encouraged to learn, think, create, share and grow.

Our school serves students in grades 6th-12th.

Nearly all of the students come from low income households.

Many of our students use the services offered by the library. The majority of users are in the middle school grades. Usage and participation by high school students has declined. As the librarian, I want both middle AND high school students to use the library as a resource.

My Project

I would like to create an area for students in grades 9-12 that offers them a safe, supportive, and positive learning space. We want this space to be comfortable, inviting, and open with a vibrant and teen-friendly look and feel.

These bean bags will help to ensure that the library media center is inviting, warm, and welcoming for all members of the school community.

In collaboration with the art teacher, we will create a colorful wall that will set it apart. Comfortable seating will allow the space to accommodate a variety of uses including leisure reading, socializing, and individual and group activity.
