A Special Ed Resource Specialist Without RESOURCES!
My students need Protractors, Equation Tiles, Factor Triangles as math manipulatives and Word Wall Posters in order to understand math concepts that do not come easily to students with learning disabilities.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Fair isn't everyone getting the same thing. Fair is everyone getting what they need in order to be successful.
These manipulatives and posters are exactly what my students need to succeed. This could be the year where we bridge a hurdle between special education and general education.
My students are funny, creative, mischievous and smart.
Despite their disabilities, they struggle day in and day out to understand what every other student is learning. They realize that they need additional support and there comes a point where my lack of resources hinders their ability to learn.
The students and their parents are humble and appreciative. These characteristics are reflected in the teachers and the ambiance of the school. We are a low income school with an immense amount of potential with a little help from donors like you. The students are surrounded by poverty and crime and our school is their safe haven. The students and teachers alike are at school very early in the morning and very late in the afternoon to provide additional support to the students that are struggling.
The school itself is filled with optimism and hope that one day our students will attend college and come back and help out their communities.
My Project
My students need Protractors, Equation Tiles, Factor Triangles as math manipulatives and Word Wall Posters in order to understand math concepts that do not come easily to students with learning disabilities. The materials would make our special education resource room a place where students can find a different way of learning. In a general education classroom students are asked to solve linear equations or algebraic equations and they can do it relatively easy. My students on the other hand, need visual and hands on materials to solve these problems. The tiles, the posters, and the geometric reflectors are all resources that will enable my students understand mathematical concepts.
When science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers are an ever growing field of study, I want my students to be able to access these same careers. I want them to be able to compete with their peers despite their disabilities. By giving them these resources, not only am I supplying my students with the ability to solve a linear or algebraic equations, but I am opening their door to the future.
I will prepare my students with the knowledge and confidence to inspire a new generation of students seeking to make a difference in the world.
The skills that they will obtain from these donations can be applied to any number of careers.
Your donation can become the catalyst to spark their imagination to strive for innovation and positive advancement and change. My students can rise to the challenges before them as critical thinkers and effective problem solvers.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
