When students enter our room, there is a sense of responsibility and individuality. Our classroom is slowly being transformed into a 21st century classroom. The students are loving the ownership that they can take as first graders!
Our elementary school is located in central Ohio in the middle of corn and soybean fields.
We are a rural county school with approximately 650 students. We have a wide range of students in all aspects (socioeconomic status, single/multiple parent homes, etc.). The students are so sweet and eager to learn. We have a very supportive community that thrives on making sure their children are receiving a wonderful education. From the staff to the parents to the school board, we are a close-knit family!
My Project
My students need four tables to sit at for doing work and collaborating. As our classroom is shifting towards a 21st century classroom, its needs are changing. In our classroom, the students need a variety of options for where they choose to work. Some may sit on our couch, some may sit on the floor with a clipboard or lapdesk, and some choose to work at a table. Students will not only complete their work at the tables, but they will also be able to work with others and collaborate as they learn. We have a very strong classroom community and the children love to work together. Having a group to call "home" will enable them to work in a more accessible and spacious area.
Our students deserve the very best we can give them.
Having a well-functioning classroom with the space they need to work is the very minimum I hope to have for my students. I can't wait to see the look on their faces when they have a spot they can call their own!
