This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach general education to first grade students in a high-need, low-income community.

"I can't sit down, the carpet is dirty!" or "She's in my spot!" are things that I hear from my students every day. They spend about 3 hours a day on the carpet, where they have their lessons and share their work. However, the carpet is often dirty (despite constant vacuuming) and it is difficult for the students to tell where their spot is. They often have someone else sitting in their place or wiggling into them while they are trying to learn how to tell time or trying to share their amazing writing.

A beautiful, new carpet with squares for each student will help my students be less distracted by their carpet and more able to learn. They will have a space that is their own where they can learn without someone else wiggling into their lap. This rug also has rhyming words in each spot, which will help my students learn to read, write and have fun with words throughout the day.

Your donation will give my students a space of their own and the ability to learn without the distraction of a dirty carpet. You will also help them learn to read and write through the fun rhymes on the carpet!
