My Project
I teach a 3rd -5th-grade class for students on the autism spectrum. They are outgoing, motivated, and enthusiastic. But, at times, strong emotions arise over friendships, class work, and home experiences.
The calm area will be a space with the sole intent of being a safe space for students to go to when they feel their emotions are running too high and they need to regain emotional and physical control. The bean bags, fidget toys, and sensory tools (calming colors, timer, calming ball, conversation starters, etc.) will help clear their mind and be ready to learn and have fun.
