My Project
My students will greatly benefit from a calming area in my room throughout their school. Just about every day they struggle with regulating their emotions. The smallest problems set them off and it can be a struggle to calm them down. When faced with challenges they become very angry. I would like to create a nice child-centered calming area for my students to retreat when necessary. I already have a few items, such as a collection of books, comfortable chairs, and a small table. I am requesting a nice rug to relax and music. I am also looking to have a small tent for them to retreat when they need time alone.
Students who are frustrated will more than likely agree to sit in a space that is quiet with little to no distractions; this is the child centered space I am looking to create.
I would like my students to know that when necessary, I can provide students with various tools across the day to assist with regulating their emotions. Helping students begin to take care control of their own emotions could possibly reduce outbursts throughout the day.
