My Students
My students are a great group of students who are filled with a lot of energy. My students are a mixture of Brooklyn natives and recent immigrants to the country. We have a rather large population of recent Yemeni immigrants. They come to school excited to learn each day. Their excitement pushes me to do my best in creating lessons that will feed into their excitement.
My students are excellent representatives of what tolerance and diversity means.
They hail from a variety of religious, ethnic, language and cultural backgrounds. Many of my students have expressed interest in expressing their diversity and appreciation by having a unique meeting space that would allow for cross cultural collaboration and for students to meet and develop ideas to benefit tolerance and cultural collaboration in our school.
My Project
This year my students are working as a team to develop and implement school-wide tolerance and restorative justice programs for fellow schoolmates in our school. My students need a clean, welcoming space in order to meet as a team, brainstorm, develop and implement tolerance projects in our school. Students will come up with anti-bullying, anti-racist, anti-homophobic, and anti-xenophobia projects to support a tolerant school community. Students need items to sit on such as bean bags, ottomans and rugs to create a welcoming space to all members of our school community. The students would also like to use the space as a place to implement restorative justice. Students will be able to work through conflicting issues and topics such as xenophobia, bullying, homophobia and racism. The space is supposed to provide a welcoming, nonconforming, relaxed space to resolve conflict and develop innovative ideas among peers.
