My students need a carpet for everyone to sit during whole group time. My students need CD read-alongs, sight word readers, and preschool prep DVDs for literacy centers to improve their literacy. My students need a color printer.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember the days in Kindergarten where the entire class gathered around the carpet to sit down and cozy in for morning message and read alouds? Could you imagine having 27 friends and only 20 spaces to sit on? These kiddos may be tiny, but boy do they love their wiggle space.
My precious students are 4 and 5 years old and are all pre emergent/emergent students.
None of them speak any English. I am at a low-income Title I school where each child is on a free or reduce breakfast and lunch. The school supports success in every student, and the abilities to achieve goals. My students are full of energy, but eager and willing to learn, especially the willingness to work with a English only speaking teacher.
My Project
My students need a carpet for everyone to sit during whole group time. Imagine sitting on a carpet with 10 other adults, and only having 5 spots available. We all know this will not end well. I have 27 amazing kinders who are excited to learn each day, yet only have enough space for 20 students. Most instructions are given on the carpet through out the entire day. Having a rug with 30 spots available will give the kiddos a sense of security, and own personal space.
My students need CD read-alongs, sight word readers, and preschool prep DVDs for literacy centers to improve their literacy. Another part of my project is to provide students with access to multiple literacy tools to enhance their learning in reading, vocabulary, and language. Having the access to the letter of the day pocket chart, students will be able to visually see pictures that relate to a letter. Seeing my students are not only learning kindergarten standards, but English at the same time, these kids need as many visuals as possible. With that being said, the box set of preschool prep will be a fun, interactive way to engage students with learning content for the year. The requested color printer will help students with visuals too.
This project will help my students stay more focused in class by having their own personal space in the classroom, and feeling a sense of belonging.
This will also improve my classroom by making it a fun, interactive place where my students will learn each day, with multiple uses of tools to build literacy and language. This will help them achieve academic goals by the end of the year; and Yes, I am the teacher that wants to get each and every child to that point.
