This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
One thing every teacher has in common no matter what grade they teach is hearing their students say "Miss, do you have any snacks?" I wish I could feed them and provide snacks whenever needed, but we all know that takes a financial toll on us.
Students shouldn't be turned away after asking for a snack.
My campus is made up of 80% economically disadvantaged students. We offer free lunch to every student on our campus, but as they're growing and maturing... sometimes, lunch just isn't enough to keep them full throughout the day.
I know these snacks may look like junk food to us, but to them it's the snacks they crave the most throughout the day! The ones they can't get at home. I plan on using the cabinet as a charging station for my students to charge their phones to be able to maintain communication with families throughout their day (if needed) The rest of the space will used to house all the snacks and microwavable meals for students in need.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
