My Students
I am an AIS teacher located in New York City. I teach eager kindergarten, first, second, and third-grade children who are struggling readers and writers. My students are devoted to learning but need a different approach toward their education. They need small group instruction that uses many types of manipulatives.
When my children are successful, the look of wonder in their eyes is a sight to behold.
It is truly what makes being a teacher the best job in the world.
My Project
Somewhere around 10:00 I start to hear children muttering "when is lunch" or "I don't feel good." I know it is due to hunger and we do stop for a snack. The problem is more than half the parents don't provide their child with a snack. In one week, I have gone through a huge tub of animal crackers. I hate to see anyone hungry but I simply can not afford to buy snacks for my class. This is the reason I am asking for a variety of snacks. Imagine being able to give a hungry five-year-old a protein bar or a bag of Goldfish.
Once everyone has satisfied their hunger, we can continue to learn for another two hours.
That is a big chunk of time in our school day. Please help my students contain their hunger and continue to learn. A snack a day is the perfect solution. I realize that these snack items aren't incredibly healthy, but hey they are kids.
