I have been teaching a decade now and during that time, I have witnessed firsthand how invaluable the experience of working with clay is for sensory development, motor skills, self esteem, self expression, problem solving skills, discipline, and pride. Clay also has a uniquely therapeutic quality that I have seen settle and calm children; it retains their attention for hours.
With a drying rack for our clay, my students will be able to achieve ALL of the skills above and stay proud of their pieces for years without them getting damaged before they even get fired.
My amazing school is in the process of adding a special and safe place for our kiln as well. We are all invested in this venture of learning better through the arts.
