This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I always tell people that my students are the best. They are always full of questions and want to learn more. They love coming into my Resource classroom and learning in a small group. They feel more comfortable in a smaller setting and are always participating. They are very eager to improve in all of the academic areas.
My student’s ages range from Transitional Kindergarten to fifth grade.
They are all different in their abilities and what they struggle with. I incorporate different learning modalities depending on what I am teaching and what each individual student needs. They are an incredible group and I am lucky to be their teacher.
My Project
These books will help cultivate my students’ love for reading. The use of these books will develop and strengthen their love of reading, as well as the struggling readers who need that extra push to know that they can read. Every student that enters my classroom has the ability to take books home or have extra reading practice in the classroom. Although I have a mixture of grades in my classroom, these books have been chosen with my younger students in mind. They are always gravitating towards the books that are too high for them, and I want them to choose books that will help them with their sight words and other simple words that they can decode on their own.
With these new books, my younger students will be able to choose from a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level and practice their sight words.
The best way to get students to love reading, is to have many books that they can choose from at their level.
