A Sharpened Pencil Leads to a Sharpened Mind

My students need a pencil sharpener to sharpen all of their pencils that quickly become dull with all the writing they do!

My Students

Writers, writers, everywhere! We are constantly writing in our classroom and illustrating our written stories and ideas. A good writer needs a good, sharp writing tool!

My students are simply amazing!

They make me smile everyday and I promise you, they are constantly smiling as well. Learning is fun and exciting to them. When it is time to write or reflect, there are no moans heard in my classroom. They see it as a privilege to be able to get their thoughts down on paper for me to read and enjoy. They love to share what they have written with each other and work hard together to make their writing even better. We are a small Title 1 school that is culturally responsible and responsive to everyone's needs. We work hard to create a culture of caring, trust, and respect, and the students flourish because of it. From kindergarten to 5th grade, our students love to be at school.

My Project

A pencil sharpener does have a direct impact on learning, I truly believe this. Students write more clearly, and they take more pride in the finished products of their work when they have tools that are in good condition. When students have a good writing implement to work with, they want to work! They write more and effort is increased. Our school shares one good pencil sharpener located in the office and oftentimes I am unable to get the pencils sharpened consistently enough for the students to use when they need them. When the pencils are sharpened it's as if a major holiday was occurring in our classroom at that moment.

A pencil sharpener truly will change my students' lives for the better.

It sounds silly but a sharpened pencil increases student output. They want to write more, their illustrations are carefully designed and colored. This small machine will allow my students more opportunity to take pride in their work.
