This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager to transition from learning to read to reading to learn, and this project will help them with this transition.
Our school's students are caring, kind, and curious.
For some, their families and teachers attended previously! We strive to provide a safe community for those students whose families move a little more often, and to provide kindness and understanding, in addition to education, while they are with us.
My Project
This classroom set of books will be used to introduce the fourth graders to novels. Through Read Aloud and small group, students will learn about author's voice, context clues, reading comprehension, predicting outcomes, in addition to learning how to discuss novels with each other. After we've read this as a class, students will begin to work in literature circles in which they choose what books to read and discuss with their classmates using the techniques they learn in our whole group novel study.
The wish of every reading teacher is that students learn to love to read.
"A Series of Unfortunate Events" engages students with its unique tone of voice and clever take on the ineptitude of adults, reaching the most stubbornly reluctant reader. Modeling a love of reading a novel for students and providing them the tools to choose their own books to read and relate to will help ignite that love of reading for the students who don't yet have it, and add fuel to the fire for those that do!
