Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title 1 school with a large population of English as a New Language students. My class is very unique. It is an integrated collaborative class with many children who have needs that need to be met. Some behavioral, some physical, some have speech and language barriers and some just need a lot of love. Regardless of their need or reading level, they all love to learn! Give them something to touch, something to build, something interesting to learn about that gets their wheels turning and it is a different world.
My Project
In a grade 1 ICT class there are many different levels, interests and languages spoken. I would love to be able to share books that come in a series so the students could really get to know the characters and follow them through their journeys. I was looking for books that are interesting to boys and girls - as well as both!
I can't wait to see the students laugh with Miss Frizzle on the Magic School Bus, or solve mysteries with Cam Jansen - who remembers the mischief of Amelia Bedlia?
A series of books for every interest. When you love a character you love to read.
I would also love to get them some STEM kits such as the Chain Reaction. Getting them to move, socialize, be creative, and problem solve is great for young minds.
