Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
All of my students are amazing in their own ways. A majority of my students have either cognitive or developmental disabilities. Regardless of disabilities, they are always ready to learn. My students love learning and look forward to coming to school each day.
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the best choices for them.
During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that promotes learning. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room that best suit their needs. These alternative locations include sitting or lying on the floor utilizing clipboards as their desk. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed tremendous differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk. The beanbag chair will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
Many of my students thrive in a unique setting that combines the comfort of home with the structures of the classroom. One easy fix is to adjust the harsh lighting of the classroom. Simple lighting covers help to provide light to work while reducing the intensity that greatly affects students, especially those prone to migraines. The LED lighting can provide a soothing calming environment. To help utilize the many color options to make the mood more conducive to their learning environment.
