This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students at our elementary school are unique learners with a diversity of needs. My students are full of energy and have a strong need for movement. Often times my students need help with emotional and sensory regulation to remain calm and ready to learn.

These students have difficulty with focus, attention, anxiety, and mood.

I would like to create an indoor space for students with behavioral health challenges to regulate their bodies and minds in a way that allows them to achieve success in the classroom. My plan is to create a Sensory room, making it a safe, inviting, relaxing, and fun space for students. I will be filling the space with multi-sensory items such as fidget sensory toys, a Light projector, a weighted blanket, and movement equipment like a Trampoline, Spinner, and Yoga balls.

I want my students to have access to the tools they need to regulate. Self-regulation is one of the competencies of social-emotional learning. As my students practice self-regulation and self-control, they will experience success in academics and peer interactions.
