A Second Set of Social Stories

Help me give my students books about social and emotional learning such as My Day Is Ruined!: A Story Teaching Flexible Thinking and How to Be Comfortable In Your Own Feathers, a book about self esteem.

My Students

Do you remember being in fourth grade? It's a time when kids feel so grown up, yet they still seek guidance from adults as they navigate social situations with peers.

Our energetic class of 28 students is a lively bunch that loves socializing.

They come from a diverse set of backgrounds with different experiences to share with the class. We are lucky to have so many people to learn from and grow with!

These kids devour books and enjoy free reading time. They enjoy reading social stories about kids their age and respond well to books that teach them how to navigate social norms in a fun way.

My Project

Knowing how to navigate social situations in school will help students work collaboratively and to solve problems independently. Having good self esteem will also help them academically.

Children must feel good inside in order to be able to learn and reach their full potential.

They want to feel that they have accomplished things that are valuable and important. They also want to feel independent. Without these needs being met, school can be challenging.

It isn't easy for a fourth grader to admit that they need help, especially navigating social situations. This project will assist students in addressing common issues kids their age come across daily in school and everyday life. Students will read these books and have discussions about what they learned. They will then turnkey the lessons and teach their first grade buddies what they have learned by making task cards, games, presentations, and posters to use.
