My Students
Students at the middle school are compassionate, incredible problem solvers, leaders, and world changers. Over the last 2 years like all teachers, I have faced the huge challenge of reaching students not only in the classroom but virtually as well. What I am amazed by continually, is my students' ability to adapt. They have taken every obstacle thrown at them; from learning how to navigate an online learning platform to being more responsible for their own learning when they are away from the classroom. It’s not the ideal situation for them, but they are making great strides in taking the lessons I give them virtually and mastering ELA standards and skills.
Building community is an important part of not only my classroom, but our school as well.
We have a community that feels like a family for our students because COVID-19 has taken the stability that a lot of our students are used to having. A large portion of our school is made up of students who face homelessness, food crises, and poverty. Myself and my colleagues work hard everyday to give our students stability so that students feel safe and valued.
My Project
A huge part of teaching is individualizing instruction for my students. Each of them have specific learning styles; visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. My visual learners and the rest of my students will be reached with a new and improved board. I can not only talk about my lessons, articles, or book, but show them, and model for them how to find relevant information in media that broadens their understanding of concepts they never put together before.
I have found students are more engaged in their learning when I am able to model how to navigate their online learning platform and enable them to be independent learners.
When COVID-19 unfortunately forces us to be home from time to time, it is even more important that I be able to impart as much information, as efficiently as possible when they are in my classroom. I believe my students will do amazing things and I do not want a lack of technology to be one more obstacle my students have to overcome.
Receiving a Smart TV, mount, and speaker will enable me to show my lessons through a media my students understand. It will also build skills necessary for my students to have with new technology and enable my learners to achieve at a higher level since I can individualize my instruction. As a teacher my role is to facilitate learning in creative ways to challenge my students to reach higher than they thought possible. Students will be able to create multimedia presentations, share their stories through text and video, and take virtual tours of the places we learn about in class.
