EXCEPTIONAL students with EXCEPTIONAL abilities! These are my kiddos! I teach students who have special needs ranging from autism to intellectual disabilities and other disabilities; some are English Language Learners with disabilities, some receive speech therapy, OT, and PT services. Needless to say, I have a very diverse group of students who are aspiring to progress to high school this year.
My ongoing project will help make every learning experience for my students tailored to their specific needs.
Some students need organizational tools that will support their processing issues. Some students will need to have their assignments modified with technology and use audio assistive technology. Whatever their need is in the regular classroom, I am here to discover it and provide for it in mine! We are excited, together, on this journey!
My Project
My students and I are embarking on an experience like no other this year. We will be having class in a school with no walls - virtual learning! I teach students with disabilities in 8th grade English classes and my students have had some experience in reading and writing on the computer by now, but they will be immersed in technology this year.
In a School with No Walls learning can be limitless though!
My students need to see and hear me clearly, thus the need for a good webcam and speaker set up for my computer I will be teaching from at home. I will be leading the class in whole group and small group instruction, demonstrating writing and reading techniques, as well as using manipulatives. My students will absolutely benefit from the technology I will use and demonstrations I make.
Being able to save the numerous and ever growing instructional resources and student work samples digitally on a separate drive will help keep things super organized and helpful - especially when I am assessing the students' performance and assessing their needs. And although I am working from home in a virtual environment, I am requesting toner for our printer because I will still be printing things to show to students, to use for the students' independent learning files, and to create manipulatives for lesson demonstrations.
All of the technology I will use are USB supported and therefore the USB hub will be the anchor for that. To make sure that I keep all of my student support meetings organized and available, a whiteboard calendar will be utilized everyday for the benefit of the students and parents. This is going to be a great new adventure and my students will greatly benefit from the items being requested.
