My Students

My students exemplify resilience and fortitude daily. I have been fortunate to work in multiple schools and never have I met students who balance so much with grace, positivity, and gratitude.

The lives my students live are not always easy, but it has made them strong and so incredibly grateful for the support of those around them who truly care.

They love to learn about counseling, and psychology. They are passionate to find out why their brains and bodies act the way they do and what they can do to be in control of themselves. It has been my greatest joy to bring them this information and watch how it’s made a difference in their lives.

My Project

We all know that our world is changing, and social emotional skills are going to be even more important when students and teachers return to school. However, most schools only have one school counselor which is nowhere near enough to meet the needs of most school populations. Teachers already have more than their fair share of things to do, luckily, I have tried out many programs, many lessons, and have found the one that is the least amount of work for teachers and one that students LOVE!

Zones of Regulation is an amazing program, that helps establish a classroom culture of respect and kindness but also teaches students important social emotional concepts like feelings, behavior norms, and size of the problem.

By helping me to purchase these books for our teachers, we are connecting the last piece of social emotional learning that is needed at our school. As the school counselor, I teach them in lessons about zones, we use it in our Turn Around Room, and I have been reviewing it in virtual lessons so now some parents are using zone language as well! However, it is so important for students to hear it daily from their teachers as well to connect the final piece.

By helping my school complete this PD project you are supporting the education and mental health of 24 teachers and 460 students. Thank you!
