A Safe Space for Creative and Collaborative Kinders
Help me give my students a safe place to learn, explore and grow. Covid restrictions enforced our administration to get rid of our classroom carpets. Young learners benefit from having instruction in a comfortable and welcoming place.
Kindergarten students are creative, hands on, wiggly, curious and nervous. A classroom carpet is the hub of the classroom. Students explore, listen, collaborate, grow, face fears, feel loved and investigate during lessons on the carpet. Two years ago our classroom carpet were taken out of the classroom without warning. Students were forced to learn from their desks or sit on the cold floor. We have not been told if we will ever get them back. Students no longer have that warm, safe space to gather with their peers and learn and grow together. I would love to have a new carpet so my students can feel that warm welcome again. A classroom carpet means more read a-louds, more collaboration, more conversations, more high fives, more questions, more centers, more learning. Thank you for considering helping our inclusion kindergarten class feel safe and happy. A little about our class:We have students with services and general education students. We are located on a military base but a Hawaii public school. All of our students have at least one active duty caregiver and often have parents deploy or leave for long trainings. Having a warm and safe space to count on would mean the world to them.
