My Students
As an education specialist, I work with students with varying levels of needs academically and behaviorally. The disabilities in my class consist of various disabilities. Many of these students have various problems with behavior, concentrating, and sensory processing.
Most of us take for granted the ability to self regulate when we are under stress or pressure.
Students with these disabilities may often times become overstimulated in their classrooms. So they are in desperate need of a calming space to go to in order to regulate and return to their classroom to continue participating in learning. We currently have space, and are in need of the equipment that will help our students regulate and get back to work!
My Project
I am requesting resources in order to build a sensory room within our school for students with sensory needs who need a quiet space to decompress. The requested materials include a sensory swing, kinetic sand table, a weighted blanket, and various fidgets. These materials will be set up in a special space within the school and all children will be able to go into the room and decompress. It will be a positive space for the students to feel safe and it will help them take charge of their bodies in the school environment. This space will allow students to gain the sensory input needed in order to better meet the demands of the general education classroom setting.
