My Project
Help me create an environment, to allow students to feel comfortable and feel "at home" in their Reading/ELA class. Our classrooms have not been painted in years, and the blinds are damaged and broken. Our students are very bright and come to school eager to learn. Adding a few more pieces will transform the dingy classroom appearance into something more magical, so students won't feel uneasy and burdened by the current appearance; the motivational and educational posters will provide a daily reminder of positivity and emphasize essential topics for the year ahead. With the help of this project, curtains can be placed on the windows to cover the dingy, broken blinds in the room.
School is like a second home for so many of the students, therefore school must be a place where students feel comfortable to open up and focus on learning.
Many of the students come from unstable home environments, and many are often moved around, so feeling a warm place and home-like will create a more engaging climate and culture in the classroom. Students need to feel comfortable and welcome in the place where they will spend the majority of their day. Students will be more successful in learning when they want to come to school each day and are greeted by a warm and cheerful environment. I am also creating a reading corner with a lovely woven rug, comfortable seating, and pillows. My students enjoy reading books in our classroom, and I am creating a space where they can feel relaxed while reading.
