Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My goals is to create a safe and inviting learning environment. With a variety of learning materials, students can succeed both academically and socially and emotionally. Our school is the heart of our community. Our students face many hardships, yet strive everyday to be their their best selves. Coming to school to learn and grow everyday.
My students are special, truly a piece of my heart.
Students learn through play both in large group, small group, and one on one. In a social emotional classroom we use a variety of items to practice emotional regulation and coping skills. I have chosen a rug, as the heart of my classroom. Sitting together to share stories to connect or play games as a way to problem solve. I am asking for a new rug so my students have a comfortable space to sit. Students are also allowed to sit in the teachers chair as a teacher helper at times, to encourage leadership skills, so I am also requesting a new classroom chair. Sports items, such as footballs or volleyballs allow student who need a physical outlet to regulate. They can be a great tool for a 5 minute brain break, students are then able to return to the classroom environment. Books helps us to learn through imagination. Books help students to create social stories about situations they might not understand yet. Creative learning materials are a great way to practice communication, teamwork, emotional regulation, friendship and many other skills.
Teachers, students and families have little access to valuable resources. Despite the challenges my students face, they love school and always arrive with excitement and enthusiasm to learn. I have seen the positive impact Donors Choice has had in classrooms, with your help I can support my students even more!
