Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As an upper elementary teacher, we are not provided with classroom rugs. This is something that students struggle with because the carpet is still their favorite place to be!
My goal is to give my students a feeling of community in my classroom.
Restorative practices are so important in a classroom and having a rug allows us to come together as a class community on the same level and discuss!
Students are also able to use the rug as flexible seating during their work time. Oftentimes, students simply want or need a space different from their desk to work. Currently, the small rug I have becomes very overcrowded and students have to use a rotation system. I would love to give my students access to a rug that more students can utilize when they need to!
