My Project
I teach at a Title I school in which 76% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. About 40% of my students are English Language Learners (ELL). In addition, some of my students have special needs that require them to have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to help them meet their learning goals.
Although many of my students face adversity, their challenges do not define their ability to learn and be successful students.
My students enjoy reading books, learning new math skills, and writing stories. They are literally like sponges and soak up every new skill that is introduced to them. Their desire to learn despite the obstacles they often face is nothing short of amazing! I want to provide a safe, nurturing, engaging, and challenging learning environment for my students during one of the most important years of their school experience. As a Kindergarten teacher, it is my responsibility to provide an enriching foundation for my students to help them to be successful in their future years of schooling.
In order to keep all of my learners actively engaged in whole-class lessons each day and provide a comfortable place to gather and collaborate together, I am in need of a new area rug for the classroom. This rug will not only allow students to collaborate together, but it will provide a cozy space for students to work independently during our Guided Reading and Math segments each day. Having a space that is comfortable will enable students to stay focused on their learning.
