A Rug for All

My students need a new rug to sit on for "rug time" learning.

My Students

"Come to the rug!" I say everyday. My students spend most of the day sitting on the rug listening to stories, doing calendar, playing math games, reading books, and other learning activities. The minute the students arrive to school they are already on the rug to the end of the day.

I teach an inquisitive group of 23 Kindergartners who are lively and actively engaged in learning.

Many of my students come from many different cultural backgrounds, and about half of my students are also learning English as their second language. We are also an inclusive classroom with children who have a wide array of learning styles and abilities.

My Project

This particular rug will be large enough for each student to have their own personal space and not get in the way of each other. In kindergarten, personal space is taught, and this rug will have clear colored boxes to help the children stay in their own spaces. They will be able to keep their hands and feet to themselves while sitting on the rug and be reminded of their own personal space. This new rug will allow the students to have their own spot without having to bother or be bothered by their friends and it will enable the students to focus more on the teaching subject rather than their friends "bothering" them.

By having this new large rug, it will allow the students to feel comfortable in our meeting place everyday because there will be ample space on the rug for each student to have their own personal space.

This new rug will have clear boxes for them to sit in and not get into other students' spaces. This will allow for the students to focus more on learning rather than feel like they are being bothered by their friends.
