My Students

We start every morning in our classroom with a song from Will.i.am. Sesame Street Lyrics titled "What I Am is What's in Me"..."I will always be the best "me" I can be." With the chorus saying..."There's nothing I can't achieve, because in myself I believe in me."

My class consist of 18, seven and eight year old students who are enthusiastic about learning!

Our second grade class is located in a small town in northwest Florida that serves many military families in our area. About 30% of our students are from low-income families. My students jump at any opportunity to use the technology in our classroom. My students are a good mixture of learning styles and learning levels. Some are English Language Learners, and others are learning at or above grade level. Making iPad minis a perfect tool for learning.

My Project

Our class has a interactive learning program known as OSMO. It allows my students to accomplish tasks with the help of this effective, and kid-friendly program. The iPad mini will allow my students to interact with numbers, words, tangram and art from their seats. With the OSMO, students can explore and discover things they didn't know before on their own. The iPad mini can serve as a personal tutor on tasks others might find difficult. They would be able to share their digital projects with their classmates. We are very excited for the opportunity to use OSMO and create presentations, digital stories and much more with the iPad mini! This generation is thriving on technology, the iPad minis will allow a familiar ground for learning. Of course, we must protect each iPad by covering them with a kid-friendly case and storing it in a accessible charging space. Finally, we need to reduce the noise in our room with fuzzy feet. The friction on the tile floor creates loud awful noises!

This project will improve our classroom environment by expanding our iPad program and will allow for more students to participate.

My hope is to eventually have enough devices for all my students to be engaged in a project. Your generous donations will help get my students thinking, collaborating, and learning. This iPad mini will help provide resources to each student at their own level. As their knowledge continues to grow, they are eager to share this knowledge with each other.
