This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
“Reading is important. If you know how to read then the whole world opens up to you.”-Barack Obama
The reading and spelling skills of many students on my caseload are below grade-level standards.
As a result, my students have difficulty understanding and writing about texts. This prevents them from experiencing the power and pleasure of reading and writing.
As a speech-language pathologist, my knowledge of language acquisition and developmental language disorders, coupled with my clinical experience, enable me to generate treatment plans that support literacy development. Direct, explicit, multisensory instruction using programs and materials based on the Orton Gillingham Approach fosters students’ ability to read and spell. Through the implementation of the Rewards programs, my students will become independent readers who learn through reading and express their knowledge, opinions, and stories in writing.
