My Project

What skills (beyond academics) would you want your kid to discover in elementary school?? Kindness - Sure! Respect - Absolutely! How about Self-Advocacy - for me, that's one of the most important skills for going into middle school - so what if all my students had access to a tool that would teach them to identify their emotions & reset?

Imagine a school where every classroom had a spot all kids can go to breathe & reset when their world gets overwhelming, stressful, emotional, or frustrating.

Maybe it's academic (darn math problems!). Maybe a friend in the classroom isn't showing kindness. Maybe things are tough at home and today is overwhelming. Imagine if every student had a safe place on campus to go & reset when things get overwhelming instead of having to act out?! What if that support was school-wide and accessible to all students so they can get reset & back to learning quickly... setting themselves up for success in knowing how to do this in life!?

I love all my kids! The ones who fly under the radar, doing what they need to do... the star students... and even the ones who take up a big chunk of bandwidth with behaviors. They all deserve a chance to get really good at this skill.

That's what you're providing with this project -- A chance for every student to have access to a tool that will build self-advocacy. The stump stools, wood slice pillows, vines, and light treatments in this project will provide decor for a calming support room to help students check in with themselves & get back to learning!
