This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic and fun loving who enjoy learning and playing in our classroom. Every morning that they come to class they are happy and smiling and ready to start the day.

They want to learn and grow!

They want to explore and see everything.

Their little minds are like sponges ready to soak up any learning that they can get. They range between the ages of 3-5 years old, yet although young they are as bright as the night stars.

My Project

My students rest daily because they attend a full day preschool program. This rest period is so important to their development. Unfortunately, the resting cots that we have currently are falling apart and unable to provide a comfortable space for children to relax. I am requesting 24 cots so that each child has a new place that is their own to sleep or lay down in during nap time or any time in the day they want to relax. Rest time for preschoolers is so important. Yes, as toddlers get older they don’t need to sleep during the day as much, but they still need time to relax and recharge. It is good for them, the classroom, as well as their families.

Research shows that preschool-aged children still need a lot of sleep.

Children between the ages of 2 and a half to 5 years of age should be getting at least 10 to 13 hours of sleep at night, and they need additional daytime sleep for healthy growth and development.

To promote healthy growth and development, preschool children should

receive support from parents, educators and caregivers that allows for a daily balance of physical activity, sedentary behavior and sleep. Developing healthy sleep hygiene in the early years is important and includes; having a calming sleep-time routine, avoiding screen time before sleep and most importantly, consideration of each individual child’s sleep and rest requirements.

After our busy mornings of learning and playing in the classroom, having a clean and new space for each child to sleep would be ideal. I know their busy bodies will be able to relax so they are ready to get up and learn even more throughout the day.
