Help me give my students in Kindergarten and 1st Grade multi-sensory tools, such as sand and screens, along with poetry and word ladders to help them become stronger at phonemic awareness and phonics skills.

My Students
The Kindergarteners and first graders at my school are some of the most compassionate and determined children you would ever want to work with. Their eagerness to learn and to help others is truly heartwarming.
Each day our students enter the school eager to grow and learn to become better students.
They amaze us every day with how they connect their learning to their lives. Our hearts swell with pride when they say, "I get it!" The way they solve problems and persevere is simply awe inspiring.
My Project
Do any research about how a child learns to read, and you will find a great deal of material on The Science of Reading. We are learning that there are three distinct subskills for word recognition: phonological awareness, decoding, and sight word recognition. To become a skilled reader, one must be proficient at word recognition along with language comprehension. Kindergarteners focus on connecting what letters make certain sounds. At the 1st grade level, we have a strong focus on word recognition.
To better prepare young readers to be able to decode words on their own, we use visual, auditory, and multi-sensory approaches.
We begin by teaching students to understand the sounds they hear in words and what will happen to the word if you change a sound. We also use sensory methods by having students write letters in sand or words on a screen with their finger. The sand or screen talks to their finger, and their finger talks to their brain.
We also use poetry and word ladders to show the relationship between words that rhyme, or have one sound that is different, or have the same spelling patterns. These techniques are used as a recipe to allow young readers to make connections that help them to become stronger readers.
